Peter pulled 153 large fish ashore from the Sea of Galilee with his net, which is to say "a great many."

This is why Herbert Wittmann has "fished" a nearly equal number of artworks from the churches and chapels of our region to present them to us—in much greater detail than in his successful church guide Ostallgäu and Kaufbeuren: from buildings and altars to Marian images, crosses, and monstrances, through to pew ends and works of Passion art.

In this fascinating picture and reading book, he takes us on a journey full of amazing discoveries. His more than 500 brilliant photos create a "desire for the church" and for those precious treasures of our Allgäu homeland, which certainly do not need to fear comparison with their often more famous counterparts in other regions.

For all the works described here are of art-historical significance. Most have an interesting story to tell or theological backgrounds to explain in order to better understand their "message."

His texts are also understandable for "complete novices." They provide impulses and invite the viewer to pause and reflect, as well as to form their own "image of the image."
