Fernand Destaing. Médecin de l'histoire. Biographie
This biography of Fernand Destaing (1915-2014), a doctor of history as he liked to call himself, is the result of numerous interviews conducted by Benoît Gaumer during the last two years of his colleague's life, enriched by his memoirs C'était l'Algérie heureuse (Ed. Atlantis 2000, 2015).
It retraces the exemplary path of a French doctor from Algeria, who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Algiers and later became a professor there, before continuing his professional career at the Faculty of Medicine of Dijon and, above all, giving free rein to his creative imagination and his talent as a medical historian.
The second part of the book describes the path of René Bourgeon (1912-1996), another French doctor from Algeria who contributed to the creation of the Faculty of Medicine of Nice.
In a third part, the entire work of Fernand Destaing is presented and analyzed, inviting the reader to explore his main titles and to (re)discover their literary and historical qualities.
